Messrs Steven Thiru at the 38th LAWASIA Conference

The 38th LAWASIA Conference was held from 11 to 13 October 2025 in Hanoi, Vietnam, and featured a wide range of distinguished speakers from across the world. Our Partners had the privilege of attending and speaking at this conference.

Our Managing Partner, Mr. Steven Thiru, in his capacity as Vice President of LAWASIA, had the honour of introducing the former Chief Justice of Malaysia, The Right Honourable Tun Tengku Maimun Binti Tuan Mat, who delivered a Plenary Session titled “The Importance of Superior Courts in a Modern Society.” In addition, Mr. Steven, as President of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, spoke at the International Bar Leaders’ Panel alongside other leaders of major international law associations. The panel explored the question: “𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙇𝙖𝙬 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙣 𝙀𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙍𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙣 𝙀𝙧𝙖 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙪𝙡𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙇𝙖𝙬 𝘼𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩?”

Further, our Partner, Ms. Janice Anne Leo, was a speaker in the session titled “𝙉𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙: 𝙀𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙮𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙀𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙮𝙚𝙚 𝙍𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙊𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝘾𝙮𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙨.” Ms. Janice shared insights on recruitment fraud cases in Malaysia, discussed the legal remedies available, and proposed legal and policy recommendations.

Meanwhile, our Partner, Mr. Jeremiah Rais, spoke at the session on “𝙉𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙧: 𝙊𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙄𝙏, 𝘾𝙮𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘼𝙄 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙨𝙞𝙖-𝙋𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣.” Mr. Jeremiah discussed Malaysia’s cyber resilience and key provisions of the Cyber Security Act 2024, highlighting how Malaysia is moving to a coherent national cybersecurity framework.
