Sree handles a wide spectrum of corporate and commercial advisory work with special emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, privatisation and corporatisation exercises, infrastructure projects, telecommunications and digital projects, securities and corporate governance regulation.
Key highlights of Sree’s experience include the following:
- Advised Bumiputra Commerce Holdings Berhad on their contested take-over of Southern Bank Berhad;
- Advised Binariang GSM Sdn Bhd on its privatisation of Maxis Communications Bhd;
- Acted in the landmark merger of Sime Darby, Guthrie and Golden Hope Group of Companies under Synergy Drive Bhd;
- Involved in notable and pioneering listings on the Malaysian Stock Exchange, including:
- Bursa Malaysia Berhad (the Exhange’s demutualised exchange holding company);
- Astro All Asia Networks plc (Malaysia’s first international IPO of a UK incorporated company);
- IHH Healthcare Berhad (which was the 4th largest IPO globally in 2012 and the largest dual listing between two ASEAN stock exchanges at the time);
- Advised prominent utility companies on various industry specific matters;
- Involved in cross-border power projects in India, Pakistan, Indonesia and Myanmar; and
- Advised Digital Nasional Berhad on its rollout of the single wholesale network for 5G products and services.
Sree also assisted the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (as it was then known) in drafting the first wave of changes to the Listing Requirements and later the demutualisation of the Stock Exchange. Further, Sree was on the Task Force on Internal Control which produced guidance for directors of public listed companies in making disclosures in their company’s annual report on the state of internal control in accordance with the Listing Requirements of Bursa Malaysia. He was also on the advisory council of the Malaysian Central Depository and the Listing Committee of Bursa Malaysia, and was an accredited mediator with the Malaysian Mediation Centre.
Sree graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with First Class Honours from the University of Malaya in 1987. He then obtained a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL), a postgraduate degree in law, from the University of Oxford in 1991 on a Kuok Foundation Scholarship. He was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1988.
