Firm’s Managing Partner Speaks at 24th Commonwealth Law Conference 2025

From 6th to 10th April 2025, the 24th Commonwealth Law Conference 2025, organised by the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA), was held at The Hilton Hotel and Conference Centre in St Julian’s Bay, Malta.

Our Managing Partner, Mr Steven Thiru, who serves as the President of the CLA, delivered an opening address during the opening ceremony of the Conference.

Mr Steven also spoke during the first Plenary Session titled: “Democrats and despots – does consensus work?”. Amongst others, the session discussed the role of The Commonwealth Charter in promoting the rule of law and human rights across the Commonwealth nations. Also on the panel were Dr Michael Frendo (House of Representatives, Parliament of Malta), The Honourable Justice Surya Kant (Judge, Supreme Court of India), and Cheryl E. Bazard KC (Former Ambassador & Acting Justice Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas).

The Conference was also honoured by the presence of The Right Honourable Chief Justice of Malaysia, Tun Tengku Maimun Binti Tuan Mat, who spoke during the second Plenary Session on judicial independence and parliamentary sovereignty. In her speech, her Ladyship expressed appreciation for the CLA’s recent statement supporting judicial independence.
